Midwifery Today Country Contact
Mavis Chen reports that in China, the midwife's status is very low, and midwifery does not have its own organization. The obstetrician has primary authoritative status in the physiological pregnancy and the pathology pregnancy. She says China's c-section rate is very high, some areas already having surpassed 50%. The use of anaesthesia to stop pain is highly promoted. "I hope that I can give midwifery through this organization [support for] natural labor and more independent choices to the feminine childbirth."
Mavis speaks Mandarin and English.
