Apeetha Arunagiri

Apeetha Arunagiri has been very much part of her Indian community and active in exploring sustainable solutions to civic concerns. She has been engaged in reforestation around the sacred mountain for about twenty years. Apeetha recently returned to Australia in order to communicate about her adopted culture, raise funds for a small, community-based project focused on social ecology and reconnect with her family, friends and homeland.

Hari’s Birth

In the first scorching hot days of summer our Tamil friends sprang a ceremony on us. My daughter and I were told it was to call out her baby, convincing him of the happy friends awaiting his arrival. We thought he was nowhere near due to stir, not for another nine weeks; but the women planned the event spot on time.
