Edith Byler

Edith Byler decided to learn the basics of emergency childbirth after attending two births by pure accident. That led to her working with her mother-in-law, Lydia Byler, who was a midwife. After apprenticing for several years with Lydia, Edith took a break to raise her own 11 homebirthed children (including two sets of twins). In 2010 Edith started apprenticing with midwife Lizzie Yoder to further her education. In 2012, when Lizzie moved and Lydia retired, Edith picked up where they left off and continues the work—delivering about 30 babies a year within her community.
