Theme: Keeping Midwifery Alive
“Epidurals rip women off of an opportunity to experience themselves as competent adults,” a certified nurse-midwife remarks. An extensive and definitive article on epidural and its immediate and long-term effects on birth, the woman’s partner, family, her self-esteem, and much more highlight Issue 14. Various authors also take both a practical and soul-searching look at how to keep midwifery alive and growing. As well, a childbirth educator takes a close look at burnout, and a midwife remembers a time when she finally realized she had “arrived.”
